Beyond Vienna provides the western print, online and broadcast media with a unique source of news and features from Southeast Europe, undoubtedly Europe's most misunderstood region.

This takes its reporters to Albania, Austria, Bulgaria, Romania and former Yugoslavia (Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Slovenia).

Each bureau member is an independent freelancer dedicated to delivering stories serving the specific demands of audiences in their own mother tongues.

But, at the same time, the depth and breadth of their work is enhanced by sharing practical, administrative and intellectual resources with others based in the bureau in Graz, Austria.

The bureau members currently include Phil Cain, who serves an English-speaking audience; Norbert Mappes-Niediek, Dutch and German; and Sandrine Fabre, French.

A fourth desk remains free for interns and, possibly, a fourth freelance correspondent, perhaps in French or Spanish. If you are interested, please email This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
